So long, Bill King

"Hello again everybody, this is Bill King from the Oakland Coliseum, bringing you today's game...."
This is the greeting I have heard with joy for my entire life, and now I will never hear it again.
I am indeed shocked and saddened, that Bill King died today.
It may be hard to explain, for those who don't listen to ballgames on the radio, but for those who do, it's like a member of the family has died...like when Johnny Carson died, we didn't know him personally, but many had said the same thing.
Only this 'Family' is Bay Area sports fans. Bill King was the announcer for the Warriors, Raiders, and A's for over 45 years.....
"Here's Barry in the corner, bounce pass to Dickey, over to Wilkes at the baseline, he spins, NO! back to Barry who lays it up and IN!...HOLY TOLEDO!..PRECISION PERSONIFIED!"....Imagine hearing that in the course of about 5 seconds...he was amazing.
And then he became the voice of the A's in 1980, my favorite team and he became even more of an institution...
Bill King on the radio, along with the favorite records I bought through the years, like when you play them now, then ahhh yes, those songs take you back, those songs are the soundtrack of our lives...and Bill King doing all those games will always be a part of that soundtrack of my own life....the sound of his voice will be indelible in my mind.
The thought of next spring, when the A's start their spring training broadcasts from Arizona with Bill not there....there will be a void that will never be replaced.
